Berkshire's first major portfolio adjustment revealed, spending $17 billion in the second quarter to bet on Google

Berkshire Hathaway submitted its 13F holdings report for the second quarter of 2026 to the U.S. SEC. The data shows that in the second quarter after Warren Buffett stepped down, the company's investment portfolio underwent significant adjustments, with a large purchase of Google’s parent company Alphabet, while reducing positions in the financial and consumer sectors.As of June 30, 2026, the total market value of Berkshire's stock holdings rose to $29.9 billion, up from $26.3 billion in the previous quarter. In the second quarter, the company added one new position, increased holdings in seven stocks, reduced holdings in six stocks, and completely sold out of one target, with the top ten holdings accounting for as much as 88.74%.Among them, Alphabet became the biggest highlight. In the second quarter, Berkshire cumulatively increased its holdings of Alphabet Class A and Class C shares by approximately 48.1 million shares, with the new holdings valued at over $17 billion, pushing Google to replace Bank of America as Berkshire's fourth-largest holding. Currently, its top five holdings are Apple, American Express, Coca-Cola, Alphabet, and Bank of America. In addition to Google, Berkshire also slightly increased its holdings in Delta Air Lines, Lennar, and Macy's. The increase in Delta Air Lines has attracted attention, as the market believes this move may reflect the company's optimism about the recovery of air travel demand and improvement in corporate operations.On the reduction side, Berkshire focused on cutting positions in the financial and consumer sectors in the second quarter. Among them, Bank of America saw a reduction of about 30.2 million shares, with the holding ratio decreasing by 5.89%, corresponding to a market value of about $1.72 billion, making it the largest reduction target; First Capital Financial reduced about 4.2 million shares, with the holding ratio decreasing by about 58%; at the same time, it reduced about 11 million shares of Kroger, with the holding size decreasing by about 22%.The market believes that Berkshire ended a streak of 14 consecutive quarters of net stock selling in the second quarter and net bought nearly $20 billion in stocks, indicating that the new leader Greg Abel is pushing the portfolio towards a technology growth direction, marking a shift in asset allocation in the "post-Buffett era."

The Intelligent Devices Group reported revenue of $17.1 billion, a year-on-year increase of 27%, with a global PC market share of 24.2% and an AI PC market share of 25.1%; smartphone revenue also reached a record high in the first fiscal quarter. The Infrastructure Solutions Group reported revenue of $8.5 billion, a year-on-year increase of 98%, with an operating profit margin rising to 9.1%, and AI server order backlog reaching $54 billion, a quarter-on-quarter increase of 157%. The Solutions and Services Group reported revenue of $2.9 billion, a year-on-year increase of 28%, with an operating profit margin of 24.2%.AI-related revenue grew by 60% year-on-year, accounting for 35% of total revenue. As the official technology partner of the FIFA World Cup, the group deployed AI technology and over 25,000 devices for all 104 matches. Regionally, revenue in the Americas grew by 58% year-on-year, the Central and Eastern European market grew by 53%, and China grew by 25%. The group ranked in the top five in Gartner's global supply chain rankings and rose to 153rd place in the Fortune Global 500 rankings.

Yushu Technology officially launched online and offline subscriptions on August 10, with an issue price of 150.80 yuan per share. The total market value after issuance is approximately 60.993 billion yuan, with total fundraising of nearly 6.1 billion yuan, and the issuance price-to-earnings ratio is 219.23 times, significantly higher than the industry average of 38.56 times.Meituan holds a total of 9.65% of Yushu's shares before issuance through its three subsidiaries, making it the largest external institutional shareholder; Sequoia China holds a total of 7.11%, ranking second. Based on the issue price, the two institutions will receive substantial paper returns. Sequoia first participated in the capital increase in December 2019 with 15 million yuan, at which time the post-investment valuation was only 150 million yuan.A fund under DJI planned to invest 10.1286 million yuan in 2018 for a corresponding shareholding of about 17%, and completed the business registration, but chose to withdraw its investment in 2019. If this investment had been retained until now, the corresponding market value would be approximately 3.7 billion yuan based on the issue price. DJI did not explain the reason for the withdrawal, but in 2019, the company announced an anti-corruption notice, disclosing the handling of 45 employees suspected of corruption, which led to a complete halt of the investment department's work.Among other major shareholders, Jingwei Venture Capital holds 5.45%, Shunwei Capital holds 4.42%, and CITIC Securities holds a total of 4.49%. In terms of strategic placement, DeepSeek received 933,400 shares (subscription of 141 million yuan), and Shanghai Qishan Investment, a subsidiary of Tencent, received 903,300 shares. CITIC Securities, as the sole sponsor, will receive approximately 145 million yuan in sponsorship underwriting fees and will be allocated 808,900 shares through co-investment. Yushu also reminds that the issuance price-to-earnings ratio is significantly higher than the industry average, posing a risk of stock price decline. The deadline for payment for successful applicants is August 12.
