first_img Analysis: China may have stockpiled 343 immersion deep ultraviolet lithography machines

According to the South China Morning Post, former U.S. officials stated that Chinese semiconductor factories have stockpiled hundreds of immersion lithography machines worth billions of dollars in recent years and urged Washington and its allies to stop further exports. The Centre for Technology & Statecraft, established in August 2026, released a report in late September estimating that by early 2026, Chinese wafer fabs had acquired approximately 343 immersion deep ultraviolet lithography systems. The report was co-authored by former U.S. export control official Nicholas Brown and former White House and Department of Commerce technology policy advisor Saif Khan. The report estimates that about 270 of these are ASML Twinscan NXT:1980i. The authors claim that although these devices lag behind extreme ultraviolet lithography machines, they can be modified for the production of 7-nanometer logic chips and advanced memory required for artificial intelligence processors (including Huawei's Ascend series). Chinese wafer fabs spent over $13 billion in 2024 to purchase about 90 NXT:1980i units, and acquired another 89 units in 2025. ASML disclosed that, by destination, China accounted for 41% of its net system sales in 2024, 33% in 2025, dropping to 19% in the first quarter of 2026 and 14% in the second quarter.Since September 2023, the Netherlands has required export licenses for the NXT:2000i and more advanced immersion deep ultraviolet equipment, effectively banning these models from being shipped to China; a year later, the licensing requirements were extended to the NXT:1980i, but this model can still be approved for shipment on a case-by-case basis.

first_img Core Lightning warns that old version nodes are under attack and urges operators to upgrade immediately

The Core Lightning team, which develops the open-source Bitcoin Lightning Network node software, has issued an urgent alert stating that reports indicate attackers are targeting nodes that have not installed patches, urging operators still running old versions to upgrade immediately. The team stated: "Emergency security update: If you are using version 26.06.7 or earlier, please upgrade to the latest release as soon as possible."Prior to this, Core Lightning began investigating a potential issue that could affect its experimental features and, in turn, impact user funds on September 16, and approximately six days later, version 26.06.8 was released. This update not only fixed several defects but also provided patches for security vulnerabilities reported responsibly by multiple parties, thanking the Bitcoin Red Team and 12 other individuals and organizations in the release notes, while also acknowledging anonymous reporters.According to the changelog, this round of fixes covers a bug that could cause sender nodes to crash, requests that could exhaust REST interface memory, and a vulnerability that could result in user funds facing confiscation losses when closing payment channels. To provide operators with ample upgrade windows and prevent attackers from taking advantage of reverse engineering and exploitation, this version intentionally obscured some testing content. Additionally, in August of this year, the project initiated a collaborative fixing process after reviewing a large number of AI-generated general vulnerability disclosure reports, and two days later released version 26.06.7 to close confirmed vulnerabilities.

first_img DeepSeek Harness v0.2 preview version released, desktop installation package launched

Phoenix Technology reported that on September 29, the DeepSeek Harness v0.2 preview version was officially released, providing installation packages for macOS and Windows desktop, and is now available on the DeepSeek official website. The new version comes pre-equipped with commonly used features for daily office work and development, and introduces a plugin installation and management page. This update optimizes file display, content preview, and code change display, improves the settings and management of automated tasks, and offers various ways to showcase work processes. Users can provide documents, spreadsheets, or PDFs for organizing materials, analyzing data, generating charts, or creating presentations, and can also modify projects and run code. The built-in automation task plugin can be activated as needed, supporting the scheduling of repetitive tasks and allowing users to view running records, adjust execution frequency, and task instructions. The plugin management page supports installing by entering the plugin package name, as well as disabling, uninstalling plugins, and viewing introductions and sources; in the experimental creative mode, users can describe their needs through dialogue, allowing it to write and modify plugins. The official statement indicates that the product is still in its early stages and will continue to improve the sandbox and security, agent teams, long-term memory, browser and other GUI software automation, remote and mobile usage, and explore session sharing and multi-user collaboration. According to the official model API user statistics, about 60% of users have used third-party plugins.

Xiao Hong, the founder of General Intelligence Manus, stated that preparations for a domestic version are underway

The founder of the general-purpose intelligent agent Manus, Xiao Hong, stated that when Manus was born, Codex and Claude Cowork had not yet appeared in the market, and the product positioning has always been a general-purpose intelligent agent. He likened Manus to a computer-selling business, believing that users may primarily purchase computers for work, but if they cannot watch videos or play games, the experience will be quite limited; therefore, it should not be confined to office tasks.Xiao Hong indicated that videos and games are important scenarios for unleashing creativity, which need to be perfected through the local client Manus Studio. The related videos for Cue are entirely produced by Manus Studio, without using video generation models; instead, the agent first writes the code, which is then converted into video. With the help of cloud computers, Manus can also create online games that support user participation with friends. In terms of infrastructure, Manus cloud computers can provide cloud-based Linux, Mac, and Windows environments. Xiao Hong stated that when the agent operates the computer in the cloud, it will not compete with the user for the local mouse cursor, and he anticipates that individuals will be able to control large-scale computing clusters in the future to satisfy curiosity and conduct experiments and explorations in fields such as mathematics and science. He also described Cue as having an independent phone number, email, payment capability, computer, and sufficient intelligence, and stated that if such agents could be regarded as humans, there might be more changes in upper-level interactions. Xiao Hong mentioned that building product experiences in an overseas open ecosystem is relatively easier, and Manus is actively preparing a domestic version.
