Morgan Stanley increased its stake in Circle to 8.32 million shares in Q2 and added to its Bitcoin and Ethereum ETF positions

According to Cointelegraph, Morgan Stanley's latest 13F filing submitted to the U.S. SEC shows that as of June 30, it held approximately 16.5 million shares of BlackRock IBIT, an increase of 23% from 13.4 million shares in the first quarter. However, due to the decline in Bitcoin prices during the quarter, the market value of this holding dropped from $667 million to $549 million, a decrease of about 18%.During the same period, Morgan Stanley also held 2.57 million shares of MSBT, valued at approximately $43.3 million, and increased its holdings in Grayscale Bitcoin Mini Trust, Bitwise Bitcoin ETF, and Fidelity FBTC, with FBTC holdings increasing by nearly 38%.In terms of Ethereum, its ETHA holdings increased by about 202% to 4.6 million shares, and the Grayscale Ethereum Staked Mini ETF holdings increased by about 26% to 5.1 million shares. Additionally, Morgan Stanley also established new positions in the Grayscale Solana Staked ETF and Fidelity Solana Fund, with market values of approximately $4.25 million and $2.26 million, respectively. On the individual stock front, Morgan Stanley's holdings in Circle (CRCL) surged from about 1.46 million shares to 8.32 million shares, while also increasing positions in mining companies and infrastructure firms such as Cipher Digital, Core Scientific, Hut 8, and Bitdeer; on the other hand, it reduced its holdings by about 550,000 shares in Coinbase, reduced over 3.1 million shares in CleanSpark, and completely exited approximately 8 million shares in Bitfarms.

The Hormuz negotiations are at a standstill, and the tension in the Middle East continues to "heat up" oil prices

Supported by the uncertainty of the reopening prospects of the Strait of Hormuz and the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, both WTI and Brent crude oil prices continued to rise in the U.S. trading session. Iran reiterated several conditions before agreeing to fully reopen the strait. According to Al Jazeera, the conditions proposed by the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, Zolghadr, include: ending the U.S. maritime blockade and the withdrawal of the U.S. Navy and Air Force from around Iran.Tehran also demanded compensation for damages caused by recent conflicts, the lifting of sanctions, and the unconditional unfreezing of Iranian assets. These demands currently reduce the likelihood of a swift return to normal shipping and help maintain the risk premium in WTI prices. Meanwhile, negotiations with Oman to establish a secure shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz seem to be making progress. However, due to the failure to reach an agreement on full reopening, investors remain cautious about the risks of long-term disruptions to oil supply. Regional tensions are not limited to the Strait of Hormuz. The Iran-backed Houthi forces in Yemen claimed responsibility for a drone attack on Saudi Aramco's refinery in Saudi Arabia. The latest attacks on major energy infrastructure have heightened market concerns about the security of regional oil supplies.

Starknet completes quantum-resistant signature transfer testing, exploring wallet upgrade paths that do not require migration

Starknet announced that it has completed the quantum-resistant signature transfer test, where a wallet account using a quantum-resistant signature mechanism completed a real transfer on the Starknet mainnet, with a transaction fee of about 6 cents, and can be queried through the block explorer. This account is currently an experimental, unaudited version, mainly used for research testing. StarkWare stated that this transfer benefits from the design of the Starknet account model.Unlike most blockchains that fix the signature algorithm at the protocol layer, each account on Starknet is a smart contract that can autonomously define the accepted signature schemes, allowing users to upgrade their wallets from traditional elliptic curve signatures to quantum-resistant signatures without hard forks, asset migrations, or changing addresses. StarkWare pointed out that most blockchains face quantum computing risks because wallet signatures and underlying verification systems rely on elliptic curve cryptography. Once large-scale quantum computers appear, running Shor's algorithm could potentially break the related encryption systems. Currently, the Starknet ecosystem supports a quantum-resistant signature scheme based on Falcon-512, which is part of the NIST post-quantum cryptography standardization process, with relevant implementations promoted by ecosystem teams and organizations such as OpenZeppelin.
