first_img Zcash released Udon, incorporating the Tachyon scaling code into Zakura Common

According to CoinDesk, Zcash developers are integrating part of the proposed scaling upgrade code, Tachyon, into the software already in use to prepare for a large number of privacy transactions in the future. This component is named Udon, originally developed as part of Project Tachyon.According to Sean Bowe, the head of Project Tachyon, Udon was released on Monday to Zakura Common, which is a cryptographic library shared by Zakura and other Zcash projects. Common is responsible for handling some of the heavy mathematical computations behind creating and verifying privacy transactions, with Zakura being jointly developed by Bowe's team and Dev Ojha's Valar Group.Zcash wallets need to prove the validity of a privacy payment without disclosing the payer, payee, or amount, and the computers running the network subsequently verify that proof. According to CoinDesk's report in August, previous improvements to Common have reduced the time to create a privacy transaction from over 3 seconds to under 200 milliseconds in some tests. If privacy payments become more common, these computers will need to handle more data. Udon brings some of the computational requirements for the proposed scaling upgrade of Tachyon into Common, allowing developers to continue building on the already accelerated code. Udon has been released as software, but the upgrade has not yet been activated on Zcash.Bowe and Ojha's long-term goal is to exceed 50,000 payments per second. At this rate, they estimate that current cryptography will allow each Zcash node to receive over 500 MB of data per second.

On Tuesday, European asset management firm 21Shares launched the first physically-backed ETP tracking Zcash on the Euronext Paris and Euronext Amsterdam exchanges, allowing investors to gain exposure to ZEC through brokerage accounts without directly holding the cryptocurrency. 21Shares also introduced an ETP tracking ETHFI, which is the governance and utility token of the decentralized finance protocol Ether.fi, providing crypto-financial services such as staking. Both ETPs are physically-backed with an annual management fee of 2.5%, higher than most Bitcoin and Ethereum investment products in Europe. The launch of the Zcash ETP closely follows Grayscale's introduction of the Zcash ETF in the United States, which is listed on the NYSE Arca under the ticker ZCSH. Zcash has recently performed strongly, with prices briefly surpassing $1500, and a nearly 1100% increase over the past year, leading to heightened market interest in it as an alternative to Bitcoin. Grayscale's research director Zach Pandl believes that Zcash may benefit from a "latecomer advantage," helping it overcome Bitcoin's entrenched network effects. The popularity of Zcash has also spread to the mining sector. Fortitude Digital Mining told Cointelegraph that the company mined about 28% of the total ZEC in the first half of 2026, with its focus on Zcash based on the network's proof-of-work model, supply cap, and privacy features.

Chengming Technology issued a letter holding ZCode accountable for uploading data without authorization

Taiyuan Chengming Technology Co., Ltd. sent a letter to Beijing Zhipu Huazhang Technology Co., Ltd., raising multiple demands regarding the alleged unauthorized upload of company data assets and trade secrets by its ZCode client, and reserving the right to pursue legal accountability. Chengming Technology pointed out that although Zhipu has publicly apologized for the "silent upload of user local repository data" and claimed to have fixed the issue, independent evidence collection revealed that the upload behavior was automatically triggered and occurred in bulk, including complete archived files such as project source code, system architecture, version control history, database passwords, cloud service credentials, and employee personal information, far exceeding the scope of collection stated in its Privacy Policy.Although the client was updated to version 3.12.3 on September 16, upload behavior was still detected in the early hours of the day Zhipu publicly apologized, raising doubts about the actual effectiveness of the "fix." At the same time, the ZCode client’s network requests pointed to a Singapore entity, while the service agreement was signed with Beijing Zhipu Huazhang, requesting clarification on the responsible party for this upload, as well as whether the data was transmitted abroad or stored overseas.Chengming Technology demanded that Zhipu respond in writing by October 10 and complete the immediate cessation of processing and thorough deletion of all uploaded data and related derivative data, caches, and backups, provide a complete list of processing situations, clarify the data's whereabouts, whether it was shared with third parties, whether it was used for model training, and whether cross-border transmission occurred, explain the management of encryption private keys and complete operation logs, clarify the exact scope of "destruction" mentioned in previous public responses, issue proof of deletion completion, provide a written commitment not to upload without authorization again, legally provide access, copying, and explanation of personal information, and designate formal communication channels, among other matters. Currently, Zhipu has not publicly responded to the aforementioned letter.

Dragonfly Partner: Zcash currently still needs a development fund, but it should terminate after the protocol is solidified

Dragonfly Managing Partner Haseeb Qureshi commented on the controversy surrounding the Zcash development fund, stating that the Zcash community has positioned itself as "the crypto version of Bitcoin" and has refused to continue adding more features to the protocol. To become a reliable store of value, Zcash ultimately needs to achieve protocol finality, but it still needs to advance Tachyon, quantum resistance, and comprehensive formal verification required to address AI network attacks, making it unsuitable for finality in the next one to two years. The development fund has played a necessary role during the phase of lacking private funding to support Zcash development, and under current rules, it will expire in 2028. However, as the price of ZEC has surged significantly, the scale of the fund has expanded by an order of magnitude; once the fund exceeds 100 million dollars, it will inevitably move towards institutionalization and face the risk of the allocation mechanism being politicized. He advocates for the continued retention of the development fund at this stage to complete the remaining technical work before protocol finality, but this round should be the last round of the development fund. Once Zcash meets the conditions for finality, the fund should gradually wind down rather than continue seeking new funding projects; future development needs can be spontaneously funded by holders and ecosystem supporters, similar to Bitcoin. In terms of governance, Haseeb does not support voting solely by token holders, believing that a store of value asset requires policy predictability, and pure token governance is too volatile. He supports limited participation by holders and believes that committee governance, while flawed, may be a more feasible solution. Haseeb also disclosed that Dragonfly holds ZEC and that he himself is a ZODL investor, but ZODL will not directly benefit from the development fund.
