first_img MetaMask Staking exits Lido validator due to infrastructure investigation

The liquidity staking protocol Lido announced that MetaMask Staking (formerly Consensys Staking) has taken precautionary measures to protect customer assets related to its Ethereum validators after investigating an infrastructure breach incident. The related measures include withdrawing its Ethereum validators from the Lido protocol, which may result in some loss of rewards. If the validators go offline recently to reduce potential network slashing risks, it may also incur downtime penalties.Lido stated that the related validators have begun to withdraw, with the last batch expected to complete the withdrawal by October 7, 2026, but full withdrawals may not be completed by then. stETH holders do not need to take any action. The ETH withdrawn from the validators operated by MetaMask Staking is expected to gradually return to the protocol during the cycle of the validators completing the withdrawal, withdrawing, and re-entering, with the estimated maximum duration of this process being about 45 days due to extended queuing times.Lido reminds that staking operations are non-custodial, and MetaMask does not manage withdrawal keys on behalf of customers. The diversified node operators of the Lido protocol and other security mechanisms, including a temporary reserve of over 6,750 stETH, are designed to control and mitigate disruptions to the normal operation of the protocol. A comprehensive investigation is ongoing, and further updates will be announced separately.

first_img Petrobras tests Cardano, tracking sustainable aviation fuel and diesel

According to CoinDesk, Brazil's state-controlled energy company Petrobras is testing the Cardano blockchain to track statements related to low-carbon fuels. The Cardano Foundation announced two research projects on Wednesday, one focusing on sustainable aviation fuel, which is a low-carbon aviation fuel alternative that can be used in existing aircraft and airports, and the other on Diesel R, which is diesel produced by Petrobras using renewable materials such as vegetable oils and animal fats. The aviation fuel project targets the book-and-claim model in green fuel sales: airlines can pay for the environmental benefits of sustainable fuel, even if the fuel itself is used elsewhere. This model requires recording the benefit attribution and claiming time to avoid double counting the same emissions reduction. The application records the source, recipient, and claiming time of each benefit through Cardano. In real scenarios, passengers can input their departure and destination airports to calculate the corresponding fuel benefits and receive a certificate linking their quota to the original fuel certificate. The diesel project records information on fuel production, transportation, and usage, compiling it into a complete fuel process history, which helps companies report Scope 3 emissions.Frederik Gregaard, CEO of the Cardano Foundation, stated that Brazil has been one of the most stable adopters of Cardano, from government agencies like SERPRO to industrial sectors like SENAI, and Petrobras continues to value the on-chain traceability and transparency. He mentioned that with x402 landing on Cardano and Fireblocks increasing support for Cardano native tokens, institutional interest continues to grow.

first_img CFTC investigates Adam Kinzinger betting on his own pardon at Kalshi

According to Politico, citing three informed sources, the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is investigating former Illinois Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger, related to his trading on the prediction market platform Kalshi. The relevant trades occurred between December 2024 and January 2025, completed through a Kalshi account associated with Kinzinger. He confirmed to the media that he had placed bets on contracts regarding whether he would receive a presidential pardon, while also betting on another contract about whether Biden would issue preemptive pardons before leaving office. In the final moments before Biden left office in January 2025, he issued preemptive pardons to Kinzinger and other members of the House Select Committee investigating the Capitol riot. Screenshots provided by Kinzinger show that he made a profit of $823 from approximately 25 trades, most of which were losses. He denied any wrongdoing, stating that he had been out of office for two years at the time of the bets, was neither a congressman nor a candidate, and had "no insider information." He also stated that he had read Kalshi's rules in advance and understood that they prohibit users from trading contracts directly related to their own interests. Kalshi prohibits users from betting on contracts in which they are direct participants, and the CFTC also prohibits the use of significant non-public information in its regulated markets.Kalshi had previously handled similar cases, suspending three congressional candidates in April for betting on their own campaigns, and freezing former Congressman George Santos's account, which was referred to the CFTC and the Department of Justice, leading to a lifetime ban at the end of August.
