first_img DogeOS launched a public testnet, introducing EVM smart contracts for Dogecoin

DogeOS, the application layer of Dogecoin, launched its public testnet on Wednesday, introducing EVM-compatible smart contracts to the Dogecoin network as a zero-knowledge rollup, with DOGE as the native token for transaction fees. The project aims to support applications such as trading, lending, stablecoins, prediction markets, and gaming, while settling state back to the Dogecoin network.DogeOS currently uses a trusted execution environment, validators, and a permissioned sequencer to ensure network security. Future proposed upgrades to Dogecoin Core will allow Dogecoin miners to directly verify their execution proofs. DogeOS CEO Jordan Jefferson stated that Dogecoin does not currently verify ZK proofs on its own, and bridging state transitions requires valid proofs as well as signatures from a majority of validators and TEE signers. He mentioned that the team is currently focused on the public testnet, allowing developers time to build and test applications, with the mainnet timeline to be announced upon reaching the next development milestone.DogeOS comes from the MyDoge wallet team, which announced a $6.9 million funding round led by Polychain Capital in May 2025. Two months later, the DogeOS team submitted a proposal for a Dogecoin Core upgrade to add native ZK proof verification for Dogecoin, but this upgrade has not yet been implemented. Timothy Stebbing, a director of the Dogecoin Foundation, expressed hope that DogeOS will serve as a springboard for a new wave of practical engineering.

first_img Dogecoin ETF demand is sluggish, Bitwise announces the closure of the BWOW fund

According to data from CoinDesk, the three U.S. Dogecoin ETFs have seen a total net inflow of only about $12 million in the past 10 months, while the XRP fund attracted $12.29 million in a single day on September 9. Out of the 199 trading days covered in the statistics, the Dogecoin fund had zero net flow for 166 days, accounting for over 83%. During the period from August 13 to September 10, it also recorded a net outflow of about $108,000.In contrast, since its launch in November 2025, the XRP fund has accumulated a net inflow of $1.7 billion, while the SOL fund has raised $1.36 billion since its launch in October 2025, both exceeding the total amount of the Dogecoin fund by more than 100 times. During the 20 trading days from August 13 to September 10, the XRP fund added $190.5 million, and the SOL fund saw inflows of $199 million, while the Dogecoin fund recorded net outflows. Even though the price of Dogecoin rose over 30% in the last two weeks of August, it did not significantly change this situation.Weak demand has led to a contraction in the product line. Cryptocurrency asset management company Bitwise announced it would close its Dogecoin ETF BWOW, which has been in operation for less than a year since its launch in November 2025, and as of September 9, had an asset size of only $687,700. Trading is expected to stop on October 14, and remaining shareholders will receive cash on October 22. A Bitwise spokesperson stated that the company decided to liquidate the fund to continue optimizing its product line to meet the changing needs of investors.

The expansion of AI data centers has spurred new financing models, with EdgeConneX seeking a $2.5 billion power guarantee

According to Bloomberg, EdgeConneX Inc., a data center operator supported by EQT, is seeking banks to provide a power cost guarantee of up to $2.5 billion to support its global data center expansion plans.EdgeConneX is negotiating a letter of credit financing arrangement with several banks, including France's Natixis and Spain's BBVA. This arrangement will help the company lock in power supply costs for its data center projects. With the rapid growth in demand for artificial intelligence training and inference, global data center construction has entered an accelerated phase, and operators are exploring new financing tools to cope with rising power procurement costs and infrastructure investment needs. EdgeConneX's request for bank support reflects that AI infrastructure companies are shifting from traditional real estate and equipment financing models to establishing new financing structures around energy supply, long-term power contracts, and other assets. In recent years, major cloud computing companies and AI infrastructure firms have increased their investments in data centers, while power supply has become a significant bottleneck constraining the expansion of AI computing power. Securing future power costs through bank credit support is becoming a new way for data center operators to obtain expansion funding.

CoinGecko released the cryptocurrency report for the second quarter of 2026, with the total market capitalization dropping to $2.1 trillion

CoinGecko officially released the "Q2 2026 Cryptocurrency Industry Report." The report shows that the global cryptocurrency market has declined for the third consecutive quarter, with the total cryptocurrency market capitalization dropping 12.6% (approximately $304.8 billion) in Q2, falling to $2.1 trillion, the lowest level since September 2024. During this period, major assets Bitcoin and Ethereum fell 14.2% and 25.4% respectively, underperforming the US stock market, while Hyperliquid (HYPE) managed to break into the top ten by market capitalization against the trend. In terms of capital flow and trading platform performance, the total market capitalization of stablecoins decreased by 1.6% to $30.51 billion, marking the first contraction since Q3 2023, with USDT's market share slightly rising to 60%. The spot trading volume of centralized exchanges (CEX) plummeted by 27.9% to $1.95 trillion in Q2, with Binance maintaining its dominance at 38.7% market share; in contrast, perpetual contract (Perps) trading showed stronger resilience, only declining 10.0% to $12.7 trillion.Compared to the overall market's weakness, specific niche segments experienced explosive growth in Q2. Driven by major sporting events, the trading volume of prediction markets significantly increased by 48.7%, reaching $113.8 billion, with Kalshi expanding its lead over Polymarket with a 58.9% quarterly market share. Additionally, in the tokenized collectibles sector, Collector Crypt performed impressively, capturing 62.8% of the trading volume share in June, surpassing Courtyard to become the absolute leader in this field.

Privacy coins continue to receive inflows of funds, and HYPE's market capitalization once surpassed that of Dogecoin

The privacy coin sector led the decline, giving back most of the recent gains in the crypto market. According to HTX data, ZEC once dropped 5.2% to $619, marking the largest decline among the top 20 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization, but it still rose 8.2% over the past 7 days. Zcash has been one of the strongest performing assets in the crypto market over the past few weeks. Due to Multicoin Capital disclosing its holdings earlier this month and the overall narrative surrounding privacy coins heating up, ZEC has attracted institutional attention. Analysts believe that a 5% pullback after such a rally is more like profit-taking rather than new selling pressure, as structural buyers of privacy coins have been accumulating during the rise rather than distributing.Hyperliquid's HYPE token briefly surpassed Dogecoin in market capitalization during the Asian session before retreating. HYPE fell 4% to $59, while Dogecoin (DOGE) dropped 0.8% to $0.1009. Driven by the launch of perpetual contracts on Hyperliquid ahead of SpaceX's listing last week, HYPE still rose 23.6% over the past 7 days. The macro backdrop has driven a cautious tone in the market. The U.S. Central Command confirmed strikes on missile launch sites in Iran and vessels attempting to lay mines in the Strait of Hormuz, describing them as defensive actions. Brent crude oil rose nearly 2% to $98 per barrel, rebounding from a 7% plunge on Monday (when the London and New York markets were closed for a holiday). The dollar strengthened against all G10 currencies, gold fell 0.6% to $4,545, and S&P 500 futures maintained a 0.6% gain after the U.S. market was closed on Monday.
